There’s more to this story. The company that allowed this hateful screed refused to allow the DNC to purchase a billboard ad that said “Shame on you Jean Schmidt!” They said it was “too negative”.
But beating up on Atheists is just fine, apparently.
I wrote about this awhile back on my blog: http://unbecominglevity.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2005/12/8/1441792.html
So it doesn’t even matter if the lawyers are atheists. It’s really funny at first because it’s off course completely wacko, but then when you think about the seriousness of putting up a sign like that, the effort/cost involved it’s pretty sad.
It is idiot preachers like this one that always tell us that there no atheists in foxholes. And as a soldier, and non-believer, my response to that comment is simply “Of course not. We are too god damned busy engaging the enemy to be praying to some inconceivable entity while huddling ourselves away in some Christian grave. Now if you don’t mind I have a job to do, and soldiers to bring home alive.” Amazingly, it is a rather effective statement against their idiocy and bias.
Don’t worry. If my understanding of the Bible is correct, all these assholes are gonna burn for an eternity. So we’re all set; why? because the rules of the Bible only apply to Christians :)
The irony is that the billboard refers to atheists as lunatics. Let’s look up lunacy, shall we?
1 a: insanity b: intermittent insanity once believed to be related to phases of the moon
2: wild foolishness : extravagant folly
3: a foolish act
Insanity aside, let’s look up foolishness:
1: lacking in sense, judgment, or discretion
2 a: absurd, ridiculous b: marked by a loss of composure : nonplussed
3: insignificant, trifling
Even more interesting – lacking sense and judgment. I could keep picking at these words all day, but in a nutshell, a lunatic is someone who lacks sense and judgment. We could argue that judgment is the act of reaching or declaring a conclusion after comparing one or more sides of an issue. If a reasoned, scientific approach is used to reach such judgment, then someone who is _not_ a lunatic would immediately toss out their Bible, Torah, Qu’ran, etc.
Interesting, hypocritical accusations, Pastor Briggs.
Not least is the fact that the US Flag Code forbids imprinting the image of the flag on anything disposable, which a billboard is. So who’s being anti-American?

@ DanielQ:
Furthermore, atheists were the first people who started to fight against fascism!
