“One Nation, Indivisible”
Students standing up for their rights. It’s great to see students fighting for separation of church and state.
Boulder High students walk out during Pledge, recite own version
About 50 Boulder High School students walked out of class Thursday to protest the daily reading of the Pledge of Allegiance and recited their own version, omitting “one nation, under God.”
The students say the phrase violates the constitutional separation of church and state.
They also say the daily reading of the pledge over the school public address system at the start of the second class takes away from education time and is ignored or mocked by some students.
A state law passed in 2004 requires schools to offer the opportunity to recite the pledge each day but does not require students to participate.
The protesting students, members of the Student Worker Club, want administrators to hold the pledge reading in the auditorium during each of the school’s two lunch periods for any students who want to participate.
Otherwise, they said, they plan to walk out each Thursday when the pledge is read and recite their version, which omits the reference to God and adds allegiance to constitutional rights, diversity and freedom, among other things.

Good for them, time people started fighting this. It never ceases to amaze me how many stupid people think it’s okay to include that phrase in the pledge. The original text has been time and again shown TO NOT CONTAIN THE PHRASE!
That being said, forcing students to recite that pledge every morning is a form of mind control. Real Americans form their own opinions and form their own love of their country. They do not need to be told what it means to be American. “Compulsory unification of opinion” as the Supreme Court so eloquently put it. Ironically, the ones who now call everyone who disagrees with them un-American (I’m looking at you, you pretend mokey-excuse for a president) are the most America-hating asses on the planet. Bin Laden loves the US more than Bush.

There is only one problem, many kids have become mindless and with no direction. People have free will and should decide after their 12 yr. old what they want to do. I don’t believe all children are taught to truly love and respect their parents or country now a days. America is suffering from an identity crisis fom want of critical thinking. Most parents and children do not know themselves and would be shocked if they knew who they were. Children and teens are following one another and are becoming like little robots. They follow each other like sheep without a sheppard and they have also become like ships without a rudder. This great nation will perish in a very short time if it does not turn around and face the sun.

Also, I agree with both of ya, Dorris, and Spoon. Hopefully this is only the beginning, right?

theres actually not a comma in “one nation under god,” which is what makes it wrong to be forcefully placed upon all students in this country.

The words “under God” were actually added to the pledge during the fifties. I, myself, refuse to recite the pledge anymore (with or without those two words) as it is an archaic lifeline to the time immediately subsequent to the ending of the American Civil War when the victorious northern states mandated the citizenry of the rebellious southern states “pledge allegiance” to the union. Besides, it begins by subjugating the speaker to a FLAG, a piece of colored fabric. I will decide to whom or what I will be loyal, thank you very much!
