Most normal thinking person just doesn’t want to appreciate religion. Where else can you find so much humor? Big hats and jelous gods, miracles, constantly tolling bells, gyrating dancers, funny men who love children (better strike this one) virgins, nuns and continuous guilt to keep them busy.
In its milder forms (80% of Europe not the US) just enough suspicion that “they” may have something to stop all thought process when in the area of this fun stuff.

Well, the Eurobarometer isn’t really correct. Something like 70-90% of Norwegians are members of the state church, because you become a member by being baptized (which is the norm). Around 10% of those people actually attend sermons.
I’ve been an Atheist for most of my life, but was automatically a member until I turned 16.
And yeah, the unemployment thing is real. Because of the welfare state, and a bureau trying to get everyone into the workforce, it’s hard to not get some kind of job.
I agree with the fact there is a few dodgy statistics in this article, however there are a few figures among general statistical data that people may find much more confusing. The main reason for some mucher higher christian belief stats I find is that Norway (lutheran/state) christianity was the state religion until very recently, and to dissociate yourself from the church you need to fill in a specific form (which, from my recent googling, is quite hard to find), and also that a large amount of the population was baptized in the state church, possibly with or without their consent. Other information I have read indicates that, at least until a few years ago, the state churches were exempt from tax and possibly received money from tax paid by people registered with the state church -not entirely relevant, but that does perhaps provide a snapshot of a viewpoint on separation of church and state. All the unemployment statistics seem to indicate that the current unemployment rate is around 3%-4%, with a rough mean around 3.3%, having a high at 4.7% in 2005 and a low of 2.3% in 2008- I have yet to see any recent norwegian unemployment statistics that show an unemployment rate of less than 2%. The statistics in this comic are slightly overexaggerated, of a bias towards norway, or contextually speaking atheism – which is slightly sad, because it doesn’t help atheists (or irreligious norwegians) advance their cause any further.
Well yeah, this is America… I’m a Dutch student who’s been living in the US for 2 years now and I still can’t get over how religious Americans are. Apart from a few Muslim immigrants I don’t recall meeting one single person in The Netherlands who was actually religious. In fact, only Slavs and Southern Europeans (Spaniards, Italians, Portuguese, Greeks…etc.) attend churches in Europe, nobody else. But here in the US, not believing in God is the worst crime one can commit. They treat you as if you were the monster! I’m an atheist, my best friend is African American, my girlfriend is Dominican American, I support women’s rights and gay rights, freedom of religion and racial equality but YES, I AM THE BAD PERSON FOR NOT BELIEVING IN GOD!!!
