Forget Intelligent Design
This is outrageous!
How can alternative theories to evolution be taught in schools such as Intelligent Design(tm) but not the others?
i.e. Were you aware that Pi is not 3.14159265 but in fact, Pi is exactly 3? How can we be sure? Because the inerrant book we currently refer to as the Bible, says so.
1 Kings 7:23 (New American Standard Bible)
Now he made the sea of cast metal ten cubits from brim to brim, circular in form, and its height was five cubits, and thirty cubits in circumference.
Now, if we do our biblical calculations using, C = r * 2 * Pi, in this case, C = 30, r * 2 = 10, which leaves only pi in question, which in this case, is clearly 30 / 10, better known as 3.
Yes, that’s right, the Bible says Pi = 3. Without a doubt, we should scrap any theory that says Pi is anything more or less than exactly 3. For heaven’s sake, the “scientists” defintion of Pi isn’t even rational! They can’t even properly define the number! I like absolute answers, as the one’s provided in the bible, that way I know the answer and don’t have to keep memorizing new numbers, it’s simply easier this way!

did you just flip to a random page in the bible and pick out some obscure line and create an argument that was never an issue? no one argues with math you asshole. come up with something interesting to talk about before you start complaining about it

Good point. Animal kingdom taxonomy is a lot simpler when using biblical answers as well. Astronomy is simplified, and legal rules, well, if you’re looking for good securities regulations then you need look no further than deuteronomy. I mean, without biblical guidance, how would we be able to determine safe levels of polution in ambient air and water? I just can’t believe it sometimes, when people argue American law is not based on the bible, I mean, haven’t you people ever read the pattent, trademark and copyright code? The clear reference to the biblical commandment “thou shalt register thy trademark before commencement of federal lawsuit” is just too much. How could anyone deny the biblical underpinning for everything?

And to jon, proving pi = 3 by the mothod chosen here is just as ridiculous as calculating the age of the earth by adding up the ages of characters in the bible. The pi = 3 argument is obviously a joke, and the 6000 year age of the earth from biblical geneology ought to be considered just as much of a joke.

Joke? The whole bible is a joke!

Jon KNOWS it’s a joke. That’s why he’s upset.
Cognitive dissonance can be painful.

air, I totally disagree. Matthew 3:38-41
38 You have heard that it hath been said: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. 39 But I say to you not to resist evil: but if one strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him also the other: 40 And if a man will contend with thee in judgment, and take away thy coat, let go thy cloak also unto him. 41 And whosoever will force thee one mile, go with him other two.
Truer and wiser words were never written or spoken.
In the first case, of turn the other cheek, jesus is referring the the master/slave relationship. In the ancient world nothing was done with the left hand except pissing, so a one being struck on the right cheek was most certainly a slave being struck with the back of his mater’s right hand. Telling the slave “resist not evil,” that is, do not do evil back to the master, but rather to “turn the other cheek toward him” is the best advice. If the slave hits back he will only be beaten or killed, but if he turns the left cheek toward the master he is equalizing the relationship, saying “no, don’t hit me like a slave, if you’re going to hit me, hit me like an equal, with your fist on my left cheek.” The shock a master would feel by a slave reacting this way does far more to undermine the evil of servitude than hitting back ever would.
A man taken to judgment (court) for his coat is a person so baddly in debt that his creditors have come for his sleeping blanket, his last possesion. There was even a law at the time that said a coat obtained in judgment had to be given back to the debtor so he did not freeze to death sleeping at night. Jesus’ advice, to give over “thy cloak as well” is advising that the debtor give away his overcoat and his underwear! The idea is the debtor would stand in court stark naked. In the old times being naked was not shameful, but seeing others that way was and the real shame was in causing it. By giving away all the clothes, the debtor shows it is the system of usury that is the injustice and not his inability to pay. This is fantastic advice that could be followed even today.
A man who would compell you to carry his pack a mile was a roman soldier. There were laws that a jew could be compelled by a roman to carry his pack, but only for one mile, and there was a stiff penalty if a soldier made a jew carry his pack further. So, insisting on carrying the pack for that second mile quite obviously undermines the process and exposes the injustice at the heart of the rule. Christ is advising a way to not be cowed by the fact that “well, we can only compell one mile of servitude.” As if it makes any difference.
The bible is not a joke, people may make one of it, but it’s full of insight and good advice, just nothing about securities regulation.

No one argues with math? what about biology and other sciences? why do they argue with evolution?

Haters: use cognitive tools. Sometimes they are useful.

the bible is riddled with that sort of thing. Some portions have been translated wrong, some parts are just flat out wrong… some portions are reasonably sensible.
If i were a christian, i’d be going mad trying to figure out which part of the bible hasn’t been “tempered with”
then again, i guess a lot of people would referr to that as the will of god rather than human error.

I am just glad it doesn’t say that the circumference was 20 or 40 cubits…then you might have something. Let me know when your archeologist find a measuring device that parses a cubit into a decimal…then you might have something too. Go Bible!!!
