France rejects Muslim woman over radical practice of Islam
Nice to see some courts tearing apart religions for forcing their trash on others. Fuck Sharia Law.
France rejects Muslim woman over radical practice of Islam
France has denied citizenship to a Moroccan woman who wears a burqa on the grounds that her “radical” practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French values such as equality of the sexes.
The case yesterday reopened the debate about Islam in France, and how the secular republic reconciles itself with the freedom of religion guaranteed by the French constitution.
The woman, known as Faiza M, is 32, married to a French national and lives east of Paris. She has lived in France since 2000, speaks good French and has three children born in France. Social services reports said she lived in “total submission” to her husband. Her application for French nationality was rejected in 2005 on the grounds of “insufficient assimilation” into France. She appealed, invoking the French constitutional right to religious freedom and saying that she had never sought to challenge the fundamental values of France. But last month the Council of State, France’s highest administrative body, upheld the ruling.
“She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes,” it said.
“Is the burqa incompatible with French citizenship?” asked Le Monde, which broke the story. The paper said it was the first time the level of a person’s personal religious practice had been used to rule on their capacity be to assimilated into France.
The legal expert who reported to the Council of State said the woman’s interviews with social services revealed that “she lives almost as a recluse, isolated from French society”.
The report said: “She has no idea about the secular state or the right to vote. She lives in total submission to her male relatives. She seems to find this normal and the idea of challenging it has never crossed her mind.”
The woman had said she was not veiled when she lived in Morocco and had worn the burqa since arriving in France at the request of her husband. She said she wore it more from habit than conviction.

“The woman had said she was not veiled when she lived in Morocco and had worn the burqa since arriving in France at the request of her husband. She said she wore it more from habit than conviction.”
Force of habit? In the summer? One of my mother-in-law’s siblings could have tolerated that, but she had chronically low blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems. She basically lived year-round under blanket(s). But even she was far to sociable to ever contemplate something like a burqa.
The key information here is that this woman is ignorant of how the secular state works, and of her responsibilities as a citizen. People who vote should not also live their lives doing nothing more than the human equivalent of heel, sit, stay, and roll over. Good for France!

If she’s doing it out of habit, then remove it. Go out, get a job, vote, be a person. Good for France. She shouldn’t get the benefits of being a citizen if she’s not going to take the responsibilities of being one.

Wow, it still shocks me that some women live like this, unaware of anything else. Not to mention, completely unable to even fantasize of something else- something better. Well, good for France on this one, for sure!!
Thanks for the story!

Good for France, as my neighbors, I look closely at the fact that in 2035 the majority of citizens their citizens is going to be muslim!!!! that is too scary for me to grasp, Spain is not doing so well in that sense either. As a libertarian I respect all political views, but someone has to do something to kick out idiotic religions. If we in Europe are the most secular and religious free, how the heck we allow muslims that might in the future force us to follow sharia law and other stupidities?

Don’t panic!
“They” can’t force “us” to follow sharia law, any more than christian fundamentalists can force us to follow their idiotic magic-book law. Secularity is immensely strong across europe, and getting stronger all the time. Religious fools like blair etc are blips in the long term trend, in which goddishness is fading away from this continent like ice melting in the arctic.

I am delighted with this ruling, and yet still back-pedaling from it. France certainly is within her full rights to reject any potential citizen who won’t accept the “responsibilities” of being a citizen, e.g. voting, contributing to the community (society) by working, consuming, etc. That is the point of a state.
But even still, voting is not compulsory, nor is holding a job, nor consuming, nor being secular. As flawed as society is, should we really be cheering on the rejection of a foreign woman because she doesn’t “fit in”?
Even if her religious convictions are extreme, and her acceptance of a subordinate life is unwavering… For goodness sake, doesn’t she have the right to live in a country and yet still be apart from society? Society is as evil an entity as anything else.
I’m not sure what I think about this, yet.
The decision seems appropriate, and still it doesn’t feel like the right answer. The right answer would be the enlightenment of that woman, not the rejection of that woman. Too bad enlightenment isn’t France’s responsibility.

I’m proud to be a muslim although many issues are related to Islam. the thing is the person who practice the Islam. If someone kill your mother, are u still just wanna sit quitely?
These are some examples of those who lived in earlier times. Even today, there are many who, with the same devotion, serve Allah. Even in these times of laxness and iniquity, there are people who try to follow noble example of Rasulullah (s.a.w.), and do not let their worldly pursuits or their physical comfort stand in their way. The Messenger of Allah said :
‘Allah says: ‘O son of Adam, spend your time in My service, and I shall bless you with freedom from want, and I shall remove your poverty. Otherwise, I shall load you with pressing engagements and duties, while your poverty and needs shall not diminish.”
How frequently we observe the truth of this.
