Stasis is a real term in the field of evolutionary biology but he has got it all wrong. Stasis is when a particular species becomes so well adapted to the region or lifestyle they live in that there is no need for any real evolutionary change. However, and we do have living examples of this now where a small minority of a particular specie migrates to a new region leaving their living ancestors behind, the pressures of Natural Selection may give way to eventual evolutionary progress in order for them to better adapt to there new habitats which leaves us with animals that sometimes look very different and sometimes almost unrecognizable from that of their ancestors giving a much needed gap in the fossil record. So this is clearly a failure to educate himself on all of the facts before he goes on a rant about something that he knows very little about. If you want to learn more about Stasis, read Richard Dawkin’s, “The Blind Watchmaker, Why The Evidence of Evolution Reveals a Universe Without Design”. Even if you have no prior knowledge in Biology it is still very readable and fairly simple to comprehend in comparison to the many other books on Evolution. And look out for his new book coming out on Sept. 19th I think which a saw available for pre-order on Amazon.com which I just can’t wait to get my hands on. It’s called “The Greatest Show On Earth”.
And also, not only do we have fossil evidence showing clear transitions from one specie to the next (see Nature) but thanks to the human genome project, scientist have not just vaguely, but precisely located where in the genome that the fusion of two pairs of chromosomes took place which is why we have on pair of chromosomes less than our distant cousins. We have the genetic markers to prove it. Booo ya!!! You can’t fuck with the D to the N to the A!! Now what?!! I feel like doing the cabbage patch dance now. ;)
Gould and Eldredge did use math…they did use real data…and stasis is in the fossil record. Maybe he should have watched some more PBS or attended a university for one of his degrees outside of Texas…his degree is in electrical engineering. Why is he talking about biology? Gould did not write a paper about imaginary numbers.
