This makes me sad. I’m not sure what deep wound you are responding to, but it’s obvious that it is eating you up on the inside. It has to be so hard to go on living each day with such an emptiness on the inside. I hope that someday you will come to see the truth, & that, in knowing the truth, you will be set free from all that is binding you up on the inside. God is love. &, no matter what you’ve said or done, He still continues to love you.
What the fuck are you talking about? “Emptiness”? Bullshit. Ditching Yahweh has made me a much better, more compassionate human being. I honestly don’t see how I could be “empty” just because I lack a belief in an imaginary friend. “God is love, he still continues to love you, etc.”
Blah, blah blah… Shut the fuck up already with that. It is clear to the rational mind that your god contradicts his own teachings. Read the (entire) Old Testament and prepare to puke.
Any rational thought process to you would be repulsive. Anything that glorifies Yahweh otherwise wouldn’t be repulsive (to you). Read your Bible and see it for what it truly is: a compilation of repulsive tales.
What do I tell my 6 year old when I catch him stealing gum? I tell him “No don’t do that. It’s wrong to take something that isn’t yours. It’s against the law. People who steal get taken to prison when the police catch them”. For every crime there is a punishment. For some crimes the punishment is more severe.
But what if he lies? What do I tell him then? What recourse to the law do I have? And how do I know it’s wrong to lie anyway? Well regional law can impose jail time for purgery but what about lieing to your boss? What is the penalty for that if you don’t get caught?
The Bible teaches spiritual concept so to look at it only from a natural position you can’t understand it. If you lie and do not get caught, you still know about it. Everytime you pat yourself on the back and say “Yep, lieing got me out of trouble again” you are only hurting yourself. Because eventually it will become a habit. Once it becomes habit you will get caught and often. I knew a guy that lied so often everyone in the room knew he was lieing and he was completely oblivious to that fact. He lost the respect of all his peers and ultimately, his lieing led him to prosecution.
The point is, every one of the 10 commandments teaches in a natural way a spiritual condition. They were posted by God to show us that these things will eventually if not immediatly bring harm to you.
Everytime you steal, lie, cheat, kill, etc. you are killing your spirit and soul. You are damaging yourself. Eventually, nothing will be sacred to you. Nothing is holy. Nothing is right or wrong. You will lose self respect. You will lose the respect of others. You will hurt those that love you and lose friends and relationships will suffer.
God is using natural symbols to describe spiritual concepts. If you don’t look at it that way, you will never understand the bible.
The fact that you seem to think people need the threat of a punishment to do the right thing is very sad to me. You must have an incredibly negative outlook on life and low opinion of humanity if that is the case.
And how does ‘keep holy the Sabbath’ “teach us in a natural way a spiritual condition”? I’m not even sure what you mean by that.
Seriously, though, I think you may be interested in the book ‘Morality without God?’ by Walter Sinnott-Armstrong. If you’re going to try and pretend that God is somehow the only possible origin of human morals, you should at least know what the opposition is saying; and just maybe you will find the points it presents convincing and you can move to a more positive world view.
(one last note: you also lie. We all lie. “I like your new haircut”, “That dress looks good on you”, “It’s so nice to see you again”, “No, I don’t mind”, “I’m sorry, I don’t have any change on me”, “I don’t have time”, “The food you cooked is delicious”)
Yootje. I got spanked when i was young. The threat of punishment and punishment itself was one of the best guiding tools my parents could have ever used. Nothing ease would have worked, believe me friend(small chuckle as i sit reminiscing). With out punishment we get 150 dead spots in the ocean and deforestation. We get selfishness and materialism. We would be spoiled. Correct that we are spoiled.
I think the sabbath was meant so that we wouldn’t work ourselves to death, in a manner of speaking. No bought rest is good. Whats good for the body is good for the mind is good for the sole, and so forth and so on….. And Yootje, i would bet Grewvy knows he slips up all the time but i would bet he tries not to.
Comparing the threat of punishment that kept in you in line as a child to the threat of Hell, shows that you never really grew up. You merely replaced your parents with an almighty father-figure. People learn to understand WHY they should or should not do certain things and thus outgrow the need for parents to threaten to punish them. If a parent still has to threaten their 30 year-old child to spank him or her, or to ground them, because if they don’t their child would misbehave – you would either call them bad parents, or you would not see their child as being mentally adult. My original point still stands: adult people of sound mind do not need the constant threat of punishment to be good, because they understand WHY they should be good EVEN if there is no reward or punishment. And if you don’t believe people do that, then A) you too have a really negative view on humanity and I pity you for not being able to see the good in other people, and B) I can back this up with the results of dozens of scientific experiments.
I really recommend the book ‘Morality without God?’, it’s not even 200 pages long, it’s not written as (needlessly) complex as some other books in this field and you can read part of the first chapter for free on amazon.com, so you can at least check and see if it would hold your interest.
Gotta tell you. Great question. Sure go ahead and use the bible and God as a cop out to explain moral issues to your child. Just as you use Santa Clause as a means to get your child to behave for one month out of the year and all along following the masses and glorifying capitalism. Your final note of comparing a understanding of the bible to the use of it’s teachings makes me want to puke. It’s like saying you need to take a business ethics class to get a business degree. There is no such thing as business ethics. Just ethics. You either have them or you don’t. Same goes with lessons that can be learned in the bible. As a parent your responsibly is to teach your child right and wrong. As a human its pretty clear which is which. Aesop’s fables teach the same morality issues. If you need a bullshit story or mythical deity to explain to your child why something is the way it is then your a moron. Kids generally speaking are extremely intelligent. When I found out Santa Clause wasn’t real I was pissed. I mean what a crock of shit to tell me as a child. I saw through so much BS since. I feel everyone should read the bible. Its a book. A Nobel prize winning (obviously before Nobel prizes where awarded) fictitious tale. This video is not a judgment on how you raise your child. Your fucking that up all on your own and no one needs to make a video labeling your retarded way of teaching your child to be good. In fact all your showing you child is how to lie to get what you want. You want him to learn a lesson so you quote a historically proven tall tale of a story. You selfish human being. May humans have mercy on your soul.
how can u say that this man is repulsive? he is taking direct quotes from the bible and explaining them for how they really are. i hate when people of christian faith say they believe every word in the bible is true and should abide by all “god’s” commands. When stuff like this is pointed out to themm they stammer and shake their head. I have no problem with Christians, but I wish they would be less hipocritical and own up to the fact that the bible does not have a place in today’s society. You cannot pick and choose what you believe, either believe it all or don’t. oh and please for the love of all that is good please stop trying to shove your beliefs down my throat. if i am wrong then ill burn forever in fiery damnation, but if i am right, well nothing happens.
Anyone gotten the idea yet that the idea of God was created so that we could have something to peg as “wrong”? I mean, if all these terrible things are coming from the Bible, maybe we have the Bible just so that we can have something to base our morals off of. Basically, we can look at the Bible and say, “Hey, that’s definitely not right, let’s do this instead,” and get a good base for human morals from that. As the Bible contains both good idea’s and bad ideas, I think it’s possible to find a medium between these that can substitute for a set of moral beliefs that everyone can agree on. Just a thought though…
It dosent matter what anyone says.people who say god is love, blah blah, apparently never read the bible.it is one of the most repulsive books I read.it is true too.the actually killed them people for stupid reasons.by the way most people look at religious people like they are shit.you guys worship something who wanted all them repulsive things done to people.you say that person is love.sometimes I wonder, what are u religious people thinking.bashing babies against rocks, raping women, killing of newborns, just to name a few.a person who orders that is wrong.its like worshiping hitler, don’t u think.you religious people hold us as a spices back.how can anything get done when we have people who think someone’s going to come out of the sky,and destroy billions, for not doing what he said.religious people are delusional.and believe repulsive things are justified by not beliving in fairy tale garbage.the contradictions, the fairy tales.come on you guys use your brains, and stop looking so dumb.u give us humans a bad name
