Religion, in all of its manifestations, is the most malignant and destructive notion that ever entered the consciousness of Homo sapiens; it is the primary motivator and excuse for most of the evil perpetrated upon one another by our species – the only species that hates. Science can free Man from the ignorance and fear of death that drives religion; it is our only hope.
That is not true. Good things have come of religion, at least some. I am researching the topic currently, and I am asking the big questions like “To what extent does morality stem from religion?” And things like that.
Fuck religion for helping soothe the body, mind, and spirit of those who seek comfort when something tragic happens in life. Fuck religion for all its charities for the poor and starving. Fuck religion for helping turn the lives of drug abusers, alcoholics, gang members, sex workers, murderers, thieves, etc. around and into more decent and sophisticated people than ever before. Fuck religion for telling billions of people around the world that life continues even after death where they can see their loved ones and friends again.
You know what else would comfort someone when they heard their loved one died? Lie to them and tell them “oh, Jimmy? Jimmy’s not actually dead! He just went on vacation!”. That would work, right?
BTW, Seriously, fuck religious charities. There are plenty of non-religious charities out there that don’t pull the bullshit that religious ones pull. Religious charities give food to starving people and tell them, “god gave you this food”. Which of course leads the starving people to ask the obvious question, “why did god let us starve in the first place?”
Religion is not necessary for drug addicts or abusers to stop doing the things they do. AA is a cult.
Telling everyone they will live forever is a lie. Spreading lies is morally wrong.
I also like how you skipped over all the horrible things religion makes people do…
A bad person does bad things; but for a good person to do bad things, that takes religion.

Ah, so you *know* for certain there is no afterlife?
What if you’re wrong?

“Fuck” religious charities? Why? Because you don’t agree with their beliefs? And how many atheist charities are out there compared to religious ones? Not that many in your case.
Also, you bring up the question “why did god let us starve in the first place?”…
Ever read the book of Job? His story is about remaining faithful to his god despite the loss of his family, the destruction caused to his property, and the deterioration of his own health. So this is a similar situation for those who have no home, food or money.
“Religion is not necessary for drug addicts or abusers to stop doing the things they do. AA is a cult.”
No, I’ve experienced many successful former addicts/abusers when they were introduced to religion. People are more likely to turn to a life of drugs and crime if they have had a negative family experience. Unless you’ve gone down their path you would know what it’s like to not feel loved at all. This is why religion is there to comfort them and tell them that Jesus loves them to no limits.
“I also like how you skipped over all the horrible things religion makes people do…”
What horrible things? And religion is merely a tool of geopolitics. You’re placing the blame on religion itself when really it should be the actions of mankind. Funny, I live in a religious town and have not seen ONE incident where a religious fundamentalist bombs an abortion clinic or walks around the block carrying a picket sign saying “God hates fags.” None at all and I’ve been living here for 30 years. Also, a religious person /=/ a fundamentalist person.
And you’re saying there is no such thing as atheists doing bad things to Christians simply for being Christian? You are generalizing religion and your hatred of it is both pathetic and immature.
“Also, a religious person /=/ a religious extremist.”
I have met many polite fundamentalist Christians in local churches. They are far from the biblethumpers who try to judge others… because well, they are not encouraged to tell others how to live their lives, simply tell them about Christianity.

“Science doesn’t have ALL of the answers”…true, but religion provides NO answers at all.

Soothing the body with sweet sweet lies.
