‘Mega-Church’ Leader Caught With Secret Second Family

Ok, on three, everyone slap their cheeks and act shocked. I know, I know, none of you can fathom how someone so respectable could possibly be up to such sinful behavior, right? Well, I’m sorry to have to break it to you.

Sex Scandal Hits Atlanta-Area Megachurch

Decatur, Ga. (AP) — The 80-year-old leader of a suburban Atlanta megachurch is at the center of a sex scandal of biblical dimensions: He slept with his brother’s wife and fathered a child by her.

Members of Archbishop Earl Paulk’s family stood at the pulpit of the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit at Chapel Hill Harvester Church a few Sundays ago and revealed the secret exposed by a recent court-ordered paternity test.

In truth, this is not the first — or even the second — sex scandal to engulf Paulk and the independent, charismatic church. But this time, he could be in trouble with the law for lying under oath about the affair.

The living proof of that lie is 34-year-old D.E. Paulk, who for years was known publicly as Earl Paulk’s nephew.

“I am so very sorry for the collateral damage it’s caused our family and the families hurt by the removing of the veil that hid our humanity and our sinfulness,” said D.E. Paulk, who received the mantle of head pastor a year and a half ago.

D.E. Paulk said he did not learn the secret of his parentage until the paternity test. “I was disappointed, and I was surprised,” he said.

Earl Paulk, his brother, Don, and his sister-in-law, Clariece, did not return calls for comment.

Christians seek right to sue BBC for blasphemy

Err, I think England needs to revise their laws, this is law that you should only see in a Theocracy.

Christians seek right to sue BBC for blasphemy

A Christian group trying to prosecute the producer and broadcaster of Jerry Springer – The Opera under blasphemy laws will take its case to the high court in London today.

Christian Voice wants to bring a case against Mark Thompson, the director general of the BBC, and Jonathan Thoday, producer of the award-winning musical, for blasphemous libel, but was refused permission by City of Westminster magistrates court. The group is hoping to launch what would be only the third prosecution in more than 80 years for an offence which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The last successful prosecution was brought by Mary Whitehouse in 1977 against Gay News for publishing a poem, The Love that Dares to Speak its Name, about a Roman soldier’s homosexual love for Christ. The human rights group Liberty, which has been allowed to intervene in the high court judicial review, says the law is outdated and argues that free speech rights must protect sacred, profane and secular language alike.

Church rejects interfaith service on its property: Hyde Park Baptist says it didn’t realize Muslims were leading annual Thanksgiving event

Austin Area Interreligious Ministries, the city’s largest interfaith organization, announced Thursday that its annual Thanksgiving celebration Sunday had to be moved because Hyde Park Baptist Church objected to non-Christians worshipping on its property.

The group learned Wednesday that the rental space at the church-owned Quarries property in North Austin was no longer available because Hyde Park leaders had discovered that non-Christians, Muslims in particular, would be practicing their faith there. The event, now in its 23rd year, invites Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Bahais and others to worship together.

Organizers had booked the gymnasium at the Quarries in July and made the interfaith aspect clear to Quarries staff at that time, said Simone Talma Flowers, Interreligious Ministries’ interim director.

Several Muslim groups were acting as this year’s hosts for the event. Kent Jennings, associate pastor of administration at Hyde Park, released a statement Thursday that said church leaders received a postcard about the service Monday and only then realized that it “was not a Christian oriented event.”

The postcard also “promised space for Muslim Maghrib prayer and revealed that the event was co-hosted by the Central Texas Muslimaat, the Forum of Muslims for Unity, and the Institute of Interfaith Dialog,” according to Hyde Park’s statement.

“Although individuals from all faiths are welcome to worship with us at Hyde Park Baptist Church, the church cannot provide space for the practice of these non-Christian religions on church property,” the statement said. “Hyde Park Baptist Church hopes that the AAIM and the community of faith will understand and be tolerant of our church’s beliefs that have resulted in this decision.”

Pastor: Let’s Take Over Microsoft So We Can Stop Gay Rights

This story is totally amazing, like how often do you hear religious people saying they’re going to take over a mult-billion dollar software company in order to put an end to gay rights? I think we can officially put to rest the question “does religion cause stupidity?”.

Pastor in Microsoft ‘gay rights’ share bid

A black conservative Christian pastor of an evangelical megachurch has vowed to take over Microsoft by packing it with new shareholders who will vote against the company’s policy of championing gay rights.

The Reverend Ken Hutcherson, a former Dallas Cowboys linebacker, heads the Antioch Bible Church in Redmond, home of Microsoft.

He told Microsoft executives at a shareholders’ meeting last week that he would be their “worst nightmare” if they continued to defy him.

Antioch Bible Church attracts around 3,500 worshippers for its services and Mr Hutcherson is a powerful figure in the Christian conservative movement.

His church, which emphasises racial diversity and a strict moral code, grew from a bible study class for just 15 people in 1984.

An advocate of a “biblical stance” against divorce and homosexuality, Mr Hutcherson, 55, is asking millions of evangelical activists, as well as Orthodox Jewish and other allies, to buy up Microsoft shares and demand a return to traditional values.

Microsoft, he declares, will be just the first company targeted in an escalation of the culture wars between evangelicals and corporate America.

“There are 256 Fortune 500 companies alone pouring millions upon millions of dollars into pushing the homosexual agenda,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

Georgia Governor Prays For Solutions

Nice to see a Governor actually doing his job. There’s a natural disaster threatening a lot of people’s lives, so he’s taken decisive action.. by praying for everything to get fixed by God.

Georgia Governor Prays For Rain

ATLANTA, Nov. 13 (UPI) — The governor of drought-stricken Georgia and 250 of his constituents gathered Tuesday to “pray up a storm.”

At the end of the prayer vigil at the statehouse, the sun broke through the clouds, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. But Gov. Sonny Perdue said God may still answer the prayers with rain tomorrow or next week.

Television cameras recorded the event as Perdue opened the vigil.

“We come here very reverently and respectfully to pray up a storm,” he said.

Police kept a group of protesters from the Atlanta Freethought Society about a block away. One of their signs read “Hail Priest-King Perdue.”

The Rev. Gil Watson of United Methodist Church led the prayers.

“We have not been good stewards of our land. We have not been good stewards of our water,” he said. “Lord, have mercy on your people, have mercy on us and grant us rain. Oh God, let rain fall on this land of Georgia.”

The National Weather Service said some light rain is possible later this week, although not enough to break the drought.

Answers In Genesis: This has got to be the funniest website I’ve ever encountered, much better than The Onion, mainly because these guys actually mean the crap they write, The Onion knows their stuff is a joke.

Here’s a paragraph from an article about Antibiotic Resistance of Bacteria:

The mechanisms of mutation and natural selection aid bacteria populations in becoming resistant to antibiotics. However, mutation and natural selection also result in bacteria with defective proteins that have lost their normal functions.

Evolution requires a gain of functional systems for bacteria to evolve into man—functioning arms, eyeballs, and a brain, to name a few.

Mutation and natural selection, thought to be the driving forces of evolution, only lead to a loss of functional systems. Therefore, antibiotic resistance of bacteria is not an example of evolution in action but rather variation within a bacterial kind. It is also a testimony to the wonderful design God gave bacteria, master adapters and survivors in a sin-cursed world.

Hahahahaha, I love it! Unless you’re evolving into a man by sprouting eyes, arms and a brain you clearly aren’t evolving, you’re just adapting! (more…)

Oh No! They’ve Figured Out How To Convert Us!

Until now, I’ve always thought of the pious as being a slow bunch, but it seems they’ve regrouped and come up with a surefire strategy to convert us heathens! Be weary when you see them trying to talk to you, they might have this unstoppable logic that will surely convert you to their side, beware.

How to Persuade an Atheist to Become Christian

  1. Think of things that make them love you. God’s word says that whoever doesn’t love, doesn’t know God because God is Love.
  2. Start conversations with issues other than religion. There’s tons of stuff out there: sports, the weather, vacation spots, other friends, pets, house prices, recent shopping trips, etc. Focus on emulating genuine interest in your friend’s personal life.
  3. Show him or her how much of an impact your beliefs have on your life. Don’t get too gushy, but let them see your beliefs.
  4. Research and give your friend practical advice for their problems from the Holy Book, such as the book of Proverbs. Don’t forget to show them the scripture, that way he or she can get the idea that it’s not your own thinking but God’s.
  5. Tactfully invite your friend to your place of worship. Still, the focus must be on giving useful advice for everyday life. Like how to be successful in life, make peace, etc. Your friend may begin to see how religion applies to his or her life. Consider reciprocating by attending a meeting of his or her choice (e.g., a local Free Thought group). Atheists might be offended that you expect them to learn about your beliefs, but are unwilling to show them the same consideration. The same situation can occur if you suggest to atheists that they read the Bible, or other Christian books, without offering to read something of their choosing in return.

Snakehandler Gets Bit Dies – Sues Hospital

Snake handling should be outlawed. Religious reasons be damned, teaching kids this sort of crap is straight up wrong.
Snakebite victim’s family sues – Blames Hospital, Nurse and Doctor

As a woman bitten by a rattlesnake during a church service in London struggled to breathe, hospital employees made derogatory comments about her religious beliefs rather than providing proper care, contributing to her death, a lawsuit charges. The case arises from the Nov. 5, 2006, death of Linda F. Long, 48, a London homemaker. Police said at the time that Long was handling a yellow timber rattler during a service at East London Holiness Church when the snake bit her on the right cheek.

People bitten by poisonous snakes during religious services sometimes refuse medical treatment. But others at that service quickly took Long to Marymount Medical Center in London.

According to the lawsuit, on the way to Marymount, someone in the vehicle called 911 at 7:46 p.m.; a dispatcher connected the call to the hospital, and the driver asked for an air ambulance to fly Long to Lexington. Hospital employees assured the Long family a helicopter was available.

A nurse met Long and those with her in the parking area outside the emergency room. Rather than take Long in right away, the nurse engaged Long and her family “in a lengthy and time-consuming series of questions” that went far beyond getting information needed to treat the snakebite, the lawsuit states.

After being taken into the hospital at 8:09 p.m., Long said she was having trouble breathing, and asked for oxygen. Hospital employees gave her a portable, oscillating fan as they allegedly “snickered and made derogatory comments” to employees — and Long’s family — about the religious beliefs and circumstances under which she was bitten.
